Tom and Pussy sound common, much too common for someone as special as your beloved pet.
So you set thinking about the proper name for her/him and you come up with something extraordinary, amazing and unique, something like Billy or Smudge, don't you?
Well, you'd better think more than twice before you choose the name for your next brat.
The problem is this world is made up of vibrations (whatever your Physics teachers and Nobel Prize winners might be blabbibg), and the name as you pronounce it sets up the vibes that create a new reality, and you will see the result fairly soon.
No kidding. Just listen to the name and pronounce it: CLARENCE, and you immediately visualise a geeky-looking a bit-out-of-this-world aristocrat (at least in the previous generation). Or if you are given a character profile for a nice, charming, somewhat stupid yet extremely kind and generous and sharing and loving person, never mind her obesity, you are ready to cry out: MELANIE!!!
Americans love statistics, and when they ran their prison inmates' names through statistical programmes, they were flabbergasted to see that some of the FIRST names defy probability laws and pop up in the prison lists much too often (I am not going to give out those names since you might become suspicious of your current partner or friend).
Regardless of the family background, education, government programmes and school curricula certain names have pushed their bearers to prison, the vibrations in their names, actually. Or they may lead to alcohol abuse.

So what kind of vibrations will your pet's name carry into the unverse? Think again.
We might conduct a little bit of a research by figuring out the major features that are carried by a certain name. From my experience I can tell that
Billy is usually mono- or bichromic (that is, has only one or two colours), nornally black and white, rather asymmetrical, green-eyed, pretty choosy about his affections (might like just one person in the family and be pretty resentlful or even aggressive to the others as well as visitors), full of mischief and pranks but prefers no publicity for his wrongdoings. Anything to add?
